I decided that I wanted to begin a weekly illustration project that was fun and that I would look forward to each week. Now, as you know, there are 52 weeks in a year, 12 hairs in a sandwich and 52 cards in a merry old deck – how convenient is that? Well, it was very convenient for me, so I packed up my things and began my journey, stopping every Friday to add a card or two to the deck.
The great thing about doing this project as a weekly feature is that I didn’t always have the same amount of time for each card.
Some weeks I would have barely an hour, and some weeks I would have half a day, so I had to make sure that I had my big woollen thinking hat over my healthy head of hair, and use my time resourcefully.
Sort of like Steven Seagal in Under Siege but with much more believable cooking skills. Another great thing about splitting the project into weekly instalments was that the deck holds a years worth of influences, inspirations and ideas, which blows my eyebrows off every time I look at them as a whole.
I had a whole wheelbarrow full of fun drawing up these cards. You know what, scratch that – two wheelbarrows full of fun drawing up these cards. It’s been a labour of love. The sort of love that a man has for a plateful of tacos.
Tacos so delicious that they could leave you bald, sweaty and talking gibberish for three days.
Thanks for stopping by – buy yourself a deck and then buy yourself a plate or two of tacos. Get to it!
